Operation Transformation

Operation Transformation 2018

We are proud to announce the details for our Operation Transformation program for 2018. Beginning on Tuesday January 16th, for the 3rd year in a row we will offer a range of activities to get our children moving for the New Year. We are starting a week later to ensure that we have the necessary volunteers in place to run our events.

Morning Circuits:

On Tuesday (3rd & 4th) & Thursday (5th & 6th) mornings, children are invited to the hall @ 8.30am for fitness circuits led by the staff. They will also experience some mindfulness and meditation on these mornings. There is no sign up required, just show up on your designated morning.

Walking Club:

Walk on Wednesday returns on Wednesday the 17th of January (2.45-3.45). Starting from the school hall, the children will be led on a 45 minute walk around Arklow. It is always great to see the school marching through the town in their High Vis. Parents/Grandparents/Siblings/Buggies etc. are all welcome to join us on our walks!

Our hugely popular boot camp will commence on Thursday January 18th (2.45-3.45). In previous years we have averaged 150 pupils attending from all classes and as a result we need 15-20 adults to ensure it is run safely. PLEASE send a note to Mr. Neenan if you are in a position to help out.

Our extremely successful Junior MasterChef will return in February for 5th & 6th classes so start practicing your dishes! Each entrant must create a healthy course at home (Starter/Main/Dessert) and present it for judging in school. The winning entrant from each class will then ‘Cook-Off’ at school in an effort to be crowned MasterChef champion.

We have once again secured the services of expert skipping Coach Mark McCabe from Skip ‘n’ Rope. On January 24th & 25th, each class will experience a fun filled tutorial from Mark with each day culminating in a school performance for all classes. This comes at a cost of €2 per child. It is excellent value for money and a day the children always talk about for weeks afterwards.

Permission Slips:

Permission slips will be sent home for Walking club and Bootcamp. These MUST be returned before Friday January 12th. It is ESSENTIAL that if your child is going to miss a day or chooses to stop attending a club that they do so in writing to their teacher or Mr Neenan.

These few weeks until mid-term are always a really exciting time in the school and a great start to the New Year. Please encourage your child to get involved.

Operation Transformation 2017

Our Operation Transformation efforts were recorded by RTE News2Day

….check out the TV footage of us being an active school !

You can see us on the RTE News Twitter page (Feb 10th)

Recently, as part of St. John’s Operation Transformation we were visited by Mark from SkipnRope. All classes participated in skipping workshops over two days. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and were proud to show off their new skills in the demonstration at the end of the day.

St. John’s staff are providing the children with opportunities to partake in morning circuit classes ( 3rd Class on Monday, 4th Class on Tuesday, 5th Class on Wednesday and 6th Class on Thursday) , boot camp, yoga class, mindfullness and a walking club. As we have drawn our inspiration from the popular Rté tv show, Rté will be in school filming for News2Day on February 10th. They hope to record our efforts as a school to get healthy and active. We hope the children are availing of these Operation Transformation opportunities and enjoying the activities before, during and after school.

A special thank you to all staff, parents and children who have helped with these events and activities. Without you all it would not be possible.
